Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé: a former Prime Minister who aspires to better

Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé, a well-known figure on the Gabonese political scene, has recently taken a major turn in his career by establishing himself as a harsh critic of the management of the Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). A former Prime Minister under Ali Bongo, his current positioning vis-à-vis the transitional government places him at the heart of debates on the political future of Gabon.

A break with the CEO and the CTRI

A former member of the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) and loyal supporter of former President Ali Bongo, Bilie-By-Nzé recently distanced himself from this historic political party, which, meanwhile, moved closer to the CTRI . This break, which gradually manifested itself in his public positions, is now official. Indeed, Bilie-By-Nzé openly criticizes the management of the transition led by General Brice Oligui Nguema and the CTRI, in particular the false promises of a genuine restoration of Gabonese institutions.

In an interview with RFI , Bilie-By-Nzé did not mince his words when he declared that General Oligui had taken power “without a real project”. He highlighted the absence of a clear vision for the country, and especially the lack of concrete solutions to meet the pressing needs of the Gabonese people, particularly in terms of governance and economic development. For Bilie-By-Nzé, the current transition looks more like an extension of the old regime than a real break with the practices of the past.

The launch of “Awu-Mawu”: A call for a new Gabon

In this context of uncertain transition, Bilie-By-Nzé has not remained passive. He recently launched an ambitious political movement, called "Awu-Mawu", which literally means "Dare to hope" . This movement aims to be a bold and unifying political alternative for "another Gabon". According to him, it is time to rebuild the country on solid and inclusive foundations, far from sterile power struggles.

The launch of "Awu-Mawu" is part of a process of reappropriation of political space by new forces that are more in line with the aspirations of the Gabonese people. In her manifesto, Bilie-By-Nzé advocates participatory democracy and a reform of Gabonese institutions to put an end to clientelism and authoritarian excesses. Her initiative attracts a varied audience, disillusioned by the Bongo years and skeptical about the future under Oligui.

Criticisms and perspectives: the opposition on the move

Bilie-By-Nzé’s criticism of the CTRI has become more pointed over the months. In an interview with Gabon Media Time, he pointed out what he considers to be unfulfilled promises by the Transition Committee. Indeed, according to him, no significant reforms have yet seen the light of day, despite the high expectations raised by the fall of the Bongo regime.

These criticisms, although acerbic, have found an echo among the Gabonese population, which is increasingly expressing its discontent with the transitional government. Through public meetings and media platforms, Bilie-By-Nzé is now positioning himself as a major opposition player, ready to challenge the established order to offer a credible alternative to the current management.

An increasingly influential voice

While his influence in the current political sphere is still under construction , it is undeniable that Bilie-By-Nzé has a significant stature inherited from his years at the top of the State. His time as Minister of Communication, then Prime Minister, allowed him to build alliances and master the complex workings of Gabonese power. Today, he presents himself as a credible opponent facing the military authority of the transition.

However, some observers criticize Bilie-By-Nzé's past, particularly his close ties to Ali Bongo. It is difficult for them to conceive that a man so deeply rooted in the old regime could embody the renewal so long awaited by the Gabonese. Nevertheless, for many, his ability to distance himself from the PDG and denounce current excesses could be proof of his desire for change.

The political future of Bilie-By-Nzé

As Gabon’s transition remains uncertain and political tensions continue to rise, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nzé appears determined to play a key role in redefining the country’s future. His new movement, his fierce opposition to the CTRI, and his outspoken criticism of the lack of meaningful reforms make him a figure to watch closely in the months ahead.

While Gabon's political future is still unclear, one thing is certain: Bilie-By-Nzé has established himself as one of the most influential voices of this new era. Whether in the spheres of power or on the streets of Gabon, he seems determined to use all his weight to shape the Gabon of tomorrow. Will he succeed? And with whom? These are the questions that remain unanswered.
